
Aldeia
dos Lagos was built as a part of the
Project "Silves: a Project of Ecotourism of
local Community in the Brazilian Amazon"
executed by ASPAC, technical support of WWF and
sponsored by the Austrian Government and WWF. The
project aim was to develop the first Ecotourism
community based undertaking in Amazon Region.

Mamirauá, located in the
Tefé City, is the largest protected flood plain
(várzea) area in Brazil. The Mamirauá Project
was initiated in 1992 with the objective to
assure the conservation of its biodiversity and
the sustainable development of the existing
communities in the area.

| The profit has been used in
the benefit of preservation of fishing lakes
system and to improve the life quality of Silves
community. ASPAC - The "Associação
de Silves pela Preservação Ambiental e Cultural"-
ASPAC - is non-profit and non-governmental
Brazilian organization composed by local
communities and their members, living in the
region of Amazonian lakes surround the Silves
Island.
The ASPAC
works on the development of Ecotourism with the
traditional communities of Silves to assure that
the resources and benefits from this activity can
return for the protection of the local lakes.

The Sustainable
Development Reserve of Mamirauá, is a
Conservation Unit of Amazonas State, covering 1,124,000
ha. Civil Society of Mamirauá
is managed by a NGO and situated in the
confluence of the rivers Solimões, Japurá and
Auati-Paraná, region called medium Amazonas. The ecotourism in
the region is a strategy to make possible the
economically sustainable of Mamirauá, promoting
the conservation and the economic development of
the communities. Reaching to protect the area of
possible social and environment impacts. Profits
are reverted to the community projects and
research.
