Mamirauá
- Posada Uacari
 La reserva de desarrollo
sostenible Mamirauá (RSDM) fue creada en 1990 como
Estación Ecológica por el gobernador del Estado de
Amazonas. En 1996, con la terminación del plan de la
gerencia, su denominación fue cambiada a una reserva de
desarrollo sostenible, otra vez por el gobierno del
Estado. El objetivo de la reserva es la protección de la
Várzea en la confluencia de los ríos de Solimões y
de Japurá, cerca de la ciudad de Tefé.
La Várzea es
un bosque inundado cada año por los ríos ricos en
sedimentos y alimentos, y puede seguir siendo debajo del
agua por más de cuatro meses cada año. Las aguas
turbias transportan una carga enorme de los sedimentos
que se depositan durante las inundaciones, haciendo los
suelos de la várzea productivos y fértil
comparado a ésos a otra parte en Amazonia. Con un área
total de 1.124.000 hectáreas (casi un tercero del tamaño
de Bélgica), los hasta 80km del bosque se pueden
sumergir entre los cursos de estos dos ríos importantes
de Amazonas.
Cada año, el
nivel de la agua puede levantarse por hasta 12 metros.
Los animales y las plantas de Mamirauá deben adaptarse
para la supervivencia en las condiciones extremas de este
ambiente. Muchos árboles se sumergen enteramente. ¡Por
esta razón, los animales del várzea son
habitantes del árbol o buenos nadadores! Durante la alta
estación de la agua los pescados invaden el bosque
inundado y adquieren el papel de la dispersión de la
semilla, que en otros bosques pertenece a las cotias, a
las pacas y a otros mamíferos terrestres - ausentes de
Mamirauá - así como varias especies de pájaros. La
inundación anual transforma toda la vida de la región.
Muchos animales dependen de las frutas y de las semillas
producidas por los árboles durante las inundaciones.
Algunos, tales como los peces Tambaqui "Colossoma
Macroponum", tiene su alimentación con las
frutas que caen en el agua. Más de 300 especies de
pescados se han catalogado ya en la reserva, incluyendo
varios ornamentales, tales como el Discus "Synphysodon
Aequifasciatus".
Mamirauá es
también casero a aproximadamente 400 especies de pájaros
y por lo menos a 45 especies de mamíferos. Uno del más
extraño es el Uacari-branco "Cacajao calvus",
un mono de cuatro kilos con alimentación casi
exclusivamente de las semillas de frutas inmaduras.
Uacaris viven en grupos de hasta 50 individuos, y viaja
muchos kilómetros cada día, en la búsqueda de sus
alimentos favoritos. Un mono también endémico a Mamirauá
es el Macaco-de-cheiro "Saimiri vanzolinii"
(mono muy pequeño), y los lagos y los ríos proporcionan
un refugio para los Peces-boi "Trichechus
inunguis" y los Delfines rosados "Inia
geoffrensis". Algunas de las especies más
importantes de madera tropical todavía se encuentra en
el área protegida por la reserva. La investigación
científica es una de las actividades principales dentro
de la reserva, y las varias tesis (los profesores y
doctores) y los artículos científicos se han producido
y se han publicado sobre Mamirauá. Esta investigación
era esencial en la elaboración de un plan de la gerencia
para la reserva.
Las poblaciones
locales no fueran removidas y sin implicadas en un
proceso de participación para asegurar una mejora en su
nivel de vivir y su ayuda en la gerencia y la protección
de la biodiversidad dentro de las comunidades. Las
comunidades locales toman el papel en la investigación,
la extensión y la gerencia, ocupando una posición
estratégica en el procedimiento de tomada de decisión.
Una experiencia única en el Brasil cuando comenzó, este
proyecto está comenzando a ser adoptado en otros
proyectos de conservación.
 Alojamiento
La posada Uacari
es acogedora y cómoda, cuenta con 10 habitaciones con
tecnologías alternativas como energía solar y un
sistema adecuado de las aguas residuales para que se
reduzca al mínimo las consecuencias para el medio
ambiente.

La ruta fluvial (Tefé-Mamirauá-Tefé)es una viaje escénica. Navegando primero por el lago Tefé,
donde es posible mirar los delfines rosados y entonces el río de Solimões (río Amazonas), en donde usted puede
mirar los tucuxis (delfines gris). Esta parte del viaje es solamente posible durante el día por razones de
seguridad.
* No somos responsables por el vuelo de Rico Líneas Aéreas,
retardo o cancel. Los boletos no están incluidos en la tarifa del paquete en la Posada Uacari, pero usted puede
comprar los boletos con Viverde. En el Aeropuerto de Tefé un equipo local esperará para llevarle al puerto de Tefé.
 Orientaciones y sugerencias
para mejorar su visita
En
el equipaje:
- Pantalones largos y cómodos, camisa larga, zapato o
tenis cómodo, casquillo o sombrero, repulsivo para los
insectos, capa de lluvia, filtro solar, linternas, máquina
fotográfica o filmadora y binóculos.
* En el caso de ser alérgico, no olvidar de tomar los
remedios usados y/o traer las medicinas personales.
** Repulsivo de insectos y capa de lluvia son
indispensables el año todo, pero en los meses de enero y
febrero son característicos por las lluvias y es mayor
la incidencia de insectos/mosquitos.
Conducta
en lo sitio:
- No se permite retirar ninguna especie del material (plantas,
animales, huevos etc.).
- No se permite jugar basura (para esto usted él
encontrará latas de basuras en la casa flotante).
- Las bebidas alcohólicas se permiten solamente en la
casa flotante y no pode ser utilizada durante da un paseo.
- Sugerimos no tomar baño en los ríos, los igapós (mata
inundada) y lagos motivado por la presencia de la gran
cantidad de pirañas y los caimanes que viven en las
aguas.
- Para su seguridad, no se permite paseos sin el acompañamiento
de los guías, por lo tanto las actividades previstas
durante el paquete existen los guías especializadas para
todos.
 Conducta
en las veredas:
- No tocar en los arbustos, los árboles etc., se podía
sorprender en la presencia del tipo de los animales:
escorpión, hormiga del fuego, arañas venenosas, entre
otros pequeños animales, que podrá causar accidentes
desagradables.
- De modo que usted pueda gozar de las bellezas de los
animales en las pistas, el silencio total es necesario,
utilizar las ropas de colores discretos y no tomar los
utensilios que producen ruido.

| 1st. Day |
Reception at Tefé Airport and transfer to Tefé Port. The speedboat departs from the Jorge Floating dock. During the way to the reservation, you will enjoy the breeze and observe magic scenery, maybe some pink dolphins (Inia geofrensis) and tucuxis (Sotalia fluviatilis) at Tefé Lake in the Amazonas River. Upon your arrival, our staff will give you rapid recommendations and explanations on the running of the lodge (meal times, solar power, water, no swimming, etc) and fill in the visitors registration form. At this time, you will be able to meet all the employees responsible for making an excellent stay. There will always be an English-speaking person at the lodge. A local guide always accompanies the outings. Some of them are naturalist guide, you must listen their recommendations at all the time, in special those regarding your own safety. The local guides do not speak English fluently.

| 2nd. Day |
Animals in the forest wake up at sunrise, so if you are interested in sighting as much wildlife as possible, you have to wake up early. The breakfast is at 06:30AM, at 7:00 the activities begin; you will be ready to go on a walk (during the dry season) in one of the trails. The group will do an Interpretative Trail. The naturalist and the local guide, joining scientific and traditional knowledge will help you to interpret the várzea environment (flooded forest). The design of the trails is not to be physically straining and most of them can be follow by walking in three hours maximum. During the flood (May-July), all trails will be done in a small paddle canoe (your guide will paddle you through the trail). In the afternoon, you have a choice to accompany a researchers team and participate of their field works and supplementing the technical information given last night. Alternatively, if you prefer, you can go to another wildlife viewing tour, travelling around the landscapes, channels and lakes system that compose part of the várzea ecosystem. After the dinner, be ready to do a night tour with high chances to see the nocturnal fauna, as tarantula spiders, opossum (Didelphis marsupialis and Philander opossum), two-toed sloth (Choloepus didactylus) and brown throated three toated sloth (Bradypus variegatus), Amazon bamboo rats (Dactylomys dactylinus), bats (Rhynchonycteris naso and Noctilio leporinus), etc.

| 3rd. Day |
This morning, you will visit a local village. The local communities have informal itinerary with a series of attractions they would like to show and talk. A person from the community will meet your group and show you around (please see the detailed information sheet about village visits). Depending on the village, you might have the opportunity to buy locally produced handicrafts - take cash with you. The lunch is at 12:30. After lunch, you can rest in a hammock; watch a video about researches done at Mamirauá or an award-winning BBC documentary on Mamirauá, read a book, or just chat - outings when the sun goes down a little. In the afternoon, you will go to another hiking or canoe tour, always exploring a different region of the reserve. After dinner, you will have the opportunity to hear a talk about the ecosystem and about the Mamirauá Sustainable Development Institute work, its research, etc. |

You are more used to the forest, if you are really quiet and set out early enough, you might see even more wildlife like capuchin monkeys (Cebus paella)), howlers (Alouatta seniculus), uakaris (Cacajao calvus calvus) and squirrel monkeys (Saimiri sciureus and Saimiri vanzolinii), three toed sloths (Bradypus variegates), hoatzins (Opistochomus hoazin), etc. If you prefer, you can practice a traditional fish or piranha fishing. In this afternoon, a motorized canoe ride to lake Mamirauá, a beautiful lake inside the total preservation area of the Reserve. At the lake, you will probably have memorable encounters with pink river dolphins (Inia geofrensis), hoatzins (Opistochomus hoazin) and perhaps the pirarucu (Arapaima gigas) fish. You will stay there until the sunset and on your way back you will spot black caimans (Melanoschus niger), bats (Rhynchonycteris naso and Noctilio leporinus), and night birds and with luck the jaguar. The Dinner is at 20:00. You can enjoy your last night to talk to the staff, to see another kind of documentary or just pack for the next morning. |
